In order to implement the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and the Detailed Programme for the Development of Agriculture in Africa (CAADP), Burundi developed the Medium-Term National Investment Programme (PNIMT) in 2006. The latter draws heavily on existing strategic documents (in particular those of the National Sustainable Food Security Policy (adopted in November 2003), and the Interim Strategic Framework for Economic Growth and Poverty Alleviation (presented by the Government to development partners during a Thematic Consultation in April 2003). It intends to contribute to the implementation of the two policy and strategy documents mentioned above.
