The program and tools for monitoring biodiversity in the Kibira and Ruvubu national parks were developed as part of the implementation of the project “improving the effectiveness of the management system of protected areas for the conservation of biodiversity in Burundi”. They come from a summary of several elements, tools and guides for collecting and managing data, comparing situations and interpreting the biodiversity situation at a given time. They focus on the following important points:

(a) Identification of key species and threats for monitoring the evolution of biodiversity;

(b) Definition of indicators and preparation of sheets to monitor the evolution of biodiversity;

c) Data recording system with Excel files;

(d) Follow-up program and finally;

e) Conclusion.
