2019 Sep 03Ministerial Order No.
In Burundi, fishing and aquaculture activities have long occupied a significant place, especially from a socio-economic point of view.
They provide income, contribute to the improvement of the diet by providing animal proteins and generate jobs for a large part of the Burundian population who live near the lakes in particular and throughout the country in general.
The new Fisheries and Aquaculture Law was enacted in November 2016. However, the latter needs to be operational.
Thus, in order to implement Law No. 1/17 of 30 November 2016 on the organization of fishing and aquaculture in Burundi and to ensure responsible and sustainable management of bio-aquatic resources, the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock has developed draft implementing texts constituting a regulatory basis to which all fishing and aquaculture activities must comply.
