2015 Mar 01Bibliographical study on ecosystem goods and services for economic valuation in Burundi
In Burundi as everywhere else, biodiversity generates and helps maintain many ecosystem services that are essential to human well-being and economic development. It is thanks to these services, for example, that Burundi has installed and is even installing hydroelectric dams and industrial tea plantations in and near this forest.
However, knowledge about their economic value remains very limited. However, it is this value that should serve as the basis for taking measures to protect ecosystems and the sustainable use of the goods and services they provide. It is in this context that an illustrative study was conducted to more or less economically evaluate certain ecosystem services in Burundi. The aim of this study is to seek to improve the understanding of the functioning mechanisms of the most relevant goods and services in the country as well as the ecosystems that provide them.
