2012 Jan 01National Strategy for Risk Prevention and Disaster Management and National Action Plan 2012-2015
Until relatively recently, Burundi was apparently not subject to risks and natural disasters. However, in recent decades, extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods, floods, storms, hail and ground movements associated with the passage of heavy rains, seem to be happening at a faster pace and potentially more dangerous and more devastating than in the past.
Technological, health, socio-political risks and especially forest fires have increased in recent years. The exacerbation of the consequences of these risks and disasters is mainly linked to two major factors: ongoing climate change and the various pressures on the Burundian environment both in rural countryside and in cities.
