International Potato Center (CIP)

The International Potato Center (CIP) is an organization founded in Lima (Peru) in 1971 with the objective of obtaining, through scientific work, the best development of the nutritional capacities of potatoes and other food roots in developing countries. It is the main global center to work on this theme, on a non-profit basis and with financial contributions from a large number of countries.

This center has experimental areas in Huancayo, in the Andean heights, and in San Ramón, a rainwater basin in northern Peru, extending from the slope to the plateaus; it thus has a wide range of geographical and climatic conditions for the various experiments on varieties. The CIP has other experimental areas in the Andes, in Quito (Ecuador) as well as a global network of regional offices and collaborators.
