The Center for the Environment and Development of the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) was created in 1992 as an international non-profit organization with diplomatic status. This initiative was in response to a call by the ministers of the environment of Arab countries (Damascus Convention, 1991) for a centre of excellence based on knowledge and technology, and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and Social Development.
