The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) was created in 2000 to address this challenge by empowering societies in developing countries and economies in transition to protect biodiversity hotspots, which are among the most biologically rich and endangered terrestrial ecosystems on the planet.

CEPF allows civil society to protect the world's biodiversity hotspots, biologically rich ecosystems that are essential to humanity but are highly endangered.
