Study of the distribution of Cyperus latifolius swamps in Burundi

Estimation of the cover of Cyperus latifolius Cyperus latifolius In Burundi, this species is found at various altitude levels: at high altitude at the edge of rivers, at low and medium altitudes on the banks of open water, alluvium, gleys and drowned peats. L'Cyperus latifolius the student NDIHOKUBWAYO Sosthène of the University of Burundi. It concerned all provinces of Burundi except the provinces of Rutana, Makamba, Rumonge, Bubanza and Cibitoke where this species is absent.
Estimation of the recovery rate of Cyperus latifolius

Cyperus latifolius is exploited by cutting or uprooting. This species is exploited to be used as mulch in cow stables, for mulching crops such as coffee and for the manufacture of mats. For the first two uses, the species is appreciated for its good decomposition speed. Since harvesting is selective, a large area must be exploited to obtain a sufficient quantity. In addition to the large quantity of material required to produce a mat, the cutting frequency is high since Cyperus latifolius is one of the highly traded marsh species in Burundi.
