2014 Mar 01Fifth report of Burundi to the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
The preparation of the National Biodiversity Report is an obligation of our country under article 26 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which states that Each country that has ratified the Convention must prepare and submit a National Report to the Conference of the Parties on the provisions it has adopted to implement this Convention and the extent to which they have ensured the achievement of the objectives set out in this Convention.
This National Report is therefore a complement to the elements provided in Burundi's 4th report and provides new information on the status and trends of biological diversity at the national level, as well as the main threats to it. It assesses the implementation of national biodiversity strategies and action plans and shows the needs and national priorities taken to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity in order to contribute to the achievement of the strategic goals and the relevant Aichi Targets of the Strategic Plan 2011-2020. It also sheds light on how the implementation of the Strategic Plan has contributed and contributes to the achievement of the relevant goals and objectives of the Millennium Development Goals. It will be used during the mid-term evaluation of the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 at the twelfth Conference of the Parties as well as in the development of the Global Biodiversity Outlook.
