From January 18 to February 19, 2016, the student NDUWARUGIRA Oscar from the University of Burundi, Faculty of Sciences, Department of Biology, 3rd year of Baccalaureate, completed a training course at the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE). This internship was supervised by Dr. NDAYISHIMIYE Joël, professor at the University of Burundi and NZIGIDAHERA Benoît from OBPE. |
In order to reinforce the knowledge learned during the university course and to be integrated into working life, the statute and regulations governing the BMD system provided for professional internships. It is within this framework that this course was organized.
The objective of this course was to determine Ruvubu National Park,
| The intern sorted the undetermined species by ranking them according to the localities of origin and the respective families. During the determination, the works of the flora of Rwanda such as Troupin (1979, 1983, 1985, 1988) and the other works were consulted. A comparison with the already determined species of the OBPE herbarium was made. |
On February 10, 2016, the intern student carried out a field visit to the Rusizi National Park, Delta sector in the Kayobera site where he was able to collect some samples of plant species at the sites of the habitat dynamics monitoring transects. It was also an opportunity for him to learn about the content of the LEM sheets and to create his own herbariums.
This internship allowed the intern to absorb important information aimed at strengthening the knowledge acquired during the academic course and to better integrate into the professional world.
