ISABU is a national institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock created by Legislative Order No. B7/11 of 22 June 1962, mandated to conduct agricultural research in order to provide Burundian farmers with efficient animal and plant material as well as appropriate supporting technologies. The official texts governing ISABU are laws, internal regulations and Decree Law No. 1/123 of 25 July 1988 on the organic regulations of public institutions in Burundi.
