Since 2016, Burundi has established reference indicators to monitor the evolution of species and ecosystems providing ecosystem services. The results of this study provide reference indicators that make it possible to assess:

- Trends in the extent of ecosystems and natural habitats;
- Trends in species and populations related to natural habitats; and
- Trends in species providing ecosystem services.
