Protected Area
Vyanda Forest Nature Reserve
From an altitude of 800 m, this reserve includes a clear forest similar and contiguous to that of Rumonge. At 1400 m, we encounter submontane forest galleries with species such as Pycnanthus angolensis, Albizia grandibracteata, etc. Beyond this altitude, the Reserve includes species typical of mountain rainforest. Overall, natural vegetation occupies about 2500 ha, compared to 2000 ha specific to Pinus plantations.
The fauna is little studied but the one observed recalls that of Rumonge with a particularity of Potamochoerus porcus. Note that despite current invasions, the forest is still home to a large population of Chimpanzees.
