In order to implement the National Strategy and Action Plan for Biological Diversity (SNPA-DB), Burundi has negotiated funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for capacity building, in particular through the Assessment of capacity building needs on the method of assessing and mitigating specific threats to the components of biological diversity.

The present study fits perfectly into the framework of the execution of this project. In its first part, the study presents the state of play in relation to threats to biodiversity and the methodologies for assessing, monitoring and mitigating threats developed by some national institutions as well as those used by international organizations.
