2008 Jan 01Basic study for the rehabilitation of the Rusizi Nature Reserve
This study, started on 13 November 2007, is part of the activities of the Transitional Post-Conflict Reconstruction Programme (PTRPC). The latter is implemented thanks to funding that the Government of the Republic of Burundi received a loan from IFAD (Loan No.
635-BI), part of which is intended for the rehabilitation of the Rusizi Nature Reserve.
Thus, as part of the activities aimed at the protection of the Reserve, a study of the technical and socio-economic feasibility of the protection and management of the Rusizi Nature Reserve is planned to determine its sustainable economic profitability after the end of the Programme.
In this context, INECN and PTRPC granted us the mandate to carry out an inventory of the Rusizi Nature Reserve and to propose a rehabilitation, development and management plan compatible with the conservation of biodiversity, tourism and the interests of the population. The
length of work was 20 days.
