Formerly called Rusizi National Park, the Rusizi Nature Reserve has an area of 5456 ha. This reserve owes its name to the Rusizi River, which originates in the south of Lake Kivu, crossing western Rwanda and eastern DRC to flow into Lake Tanganyika.
