The tenth Brussels Development Briefing took place on 29 April 2009 at the ACP Secretariat and focused on “The fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing: impacts and challenges for ACP countries”.

This Briefing examined the main economic, social and environmental challenges raised by IUU fishing at global and regional levels, especially in the ACP context. He reviewed existing global and regional initiatives to combat IUU fishing. In addition, the 2008 EC Regulation to prevent, combat and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing was debated, as well as the challenges of its implementation in ACP countries and their need for technical assistance in order to meet the new conditions.
