2020 Oct 28Decree No. 100/091 of October 28, 2020, on the revision of Decree No.
In Burundi, the agricultural sector is the engine of the national economy; it is the guarantor of the food security of the population. Agriculture is practised in a traditional way by about 1.2 million rural families (90% of the population) on very small farms whose average size is around 0.5 ha. With a population that is growing at a rate greater than 3% in some localities, there is a great risk that the vulnerability of food-insecure populations will worsen and that the economy will decline if adequate investments are not put in place.
To alleviate this situation, the Government of Burundi, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, has developed sectoral policies, strategies, programs and action plans aimed at relaunching the agricultural sector: National Agricultural Strategy (SAN), National Food Security Program (PNSA), National Food Security Program (PNSA), Strategy Orientation Document (DOS).
In consultation with partners in the sector, an operational National Agricultural Investment Plan (PNIA 2012-2017), capable of meeting the imperative of controlling the management and coordination of the agricultural sector, has been put in place.
To face another challenge, which is that of information, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has embarked on the development of tools related to new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), of which this site will be the gateway.
Through this website, all documents related to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and all achievements will be published to inform the public in general and partners in particular.
