2021 Apr 01Report on the activities of the realization of the study on the geographical distribution, stock and socio-economic importance of Raffia from Burundi
As part of its “Research Program, Information Exchange, Awareness and Conservation of Biodiversity in Burundi” established in partnership with the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium (IRSNB), the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE), has commissioned the conduct of a study on the “Geographic distribution, stock and socio-economic importance of Burundi Raffia” to two researchers from the University of Burundi, namely Mr. Eric NIMUBONA and Prof. Jacques NKENGURUTSE. The study is carried out as part of the collection of data from the memory of Mr. Eric NIMUBONA, a Master's student in Organismal Biology and Ecology, organized at the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Burundi.
The study plans to (i) map the distribution area of Raphia ruwenzorica in Burundi, (ii) attempt to determine the stock and (iii) document the socio-economic importance of this species.
This is the second report since the start of activities. The first work was carried out in two main stages: the design of the methodology and tools for collecting data and its implementation in the field. The second job consists in carrying out the survey and the inventory itself.
