Field trip to inquire about the state of play of the Gisagara Protected Landscape

On October 28, 2021, the Burundian Office for the Protection of the Environment (OBPE) in collaboration with the administration, the judiciary and the services in charge of security, carried out a field survey to inquire about the state of play of the Gisagara Protected Landscape located in the municipality of Gisagara in the province of Cankuzo. This descent follows the constant bitterness of the illegal occupation of this landscape by the population who come to settle there in violation of the law in force, including Decree No. 100/116 of 12 April 2011 delimiting the protected landscape of Gisagara.

In this context, two priority activities are planned. The aim is firstly to demarcate the Gisagara Protected Landscape in order to establish the reference situation by referring to the limits indicated in the 2021 Presidential Decree and secondly to establish the current situation in order to clear the area that has been invaded by the population.
