Burundi developed a first National Strategy and Action Plan on Biological Diversity (SNPAB) in 2000 with the support of the Global Environment Fund (GEF). To support the implementation of the objectives of this strategy and minimize threats that may harm biodiversity, a regional plan for the implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan on Biodiversity in the ecological zones of Mumirwa and the Congo-Nile Ridge was developed in 2013.
