2021 Dec 19Alternative energies: One of the solutions against deforestation
The energy penetration rate is 10%. As a result, the country depends on firewood for more than 90%. This contributes to the disappearance of forests. Alternative energy is seen as one of the solutions against deforestation
During the national forum on the development of Burundi, which took place from 18 to 19 November 2021, experts recalled that the country needs 1,200 MGW of energy. This at a time when the current installed energy capacity is 78.7 MGW, or 7%.
However, no country can develop without energy. Renewable energies can turn the tide. These are of five types, namely: hydroelectric power, solar energy, solar energy, biomass, wind energy and geothermal energy.
