The history of Burundian forestry indicates that changes in forest policies in Burundi from colonial times to the eve of the period of major socio-political crisis in 1993 somewhat followed changes in government regimes. The objectives were focused on combating the shortage of wood and the degradation of forests, land and the environment. Indeed, this policy aims to provide general guidelines to enlighten and guide public authorities to regulate the use of wooded areas, properly manage forest resources and valorize all extracted products.
