Ecosystem threats in the Kibimbi-Inanzerwe mountains

Apart from the activities of the population around the mountains, the latter uses the resources of the environment by carrying out activities within the massif constituting the threats of the environment. The activities observed on the massif include animal husbandry, wood cutting, carbonization, agriculture, the harvesting of medicinal and edible species, the anarchic exploitation of stones and lime.

Among the activities that severely degrade biological resources, especially plant resources, in the mountains, pasture fires and wood cutting come first. These anthropogenic actions decimate vegetation over several hectares, thus promoting erosion.
