2024 May 01State of knowledge of the invasive species Sericostachys scandens by the population living near Kibira National Park
In 2019, IPBES, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, in its global assessment report highlighted that invasive alien species (IAS) play a significant role in the loss of global biodiversity. Faced with this worrying observation, it was recommended to assess the knowledge on invasive exotic species, in order to be enlightened on the best levers of action against this growing threat (https://www.mnhn.fr/fr/les-especes-invasives-en-5-questions). It is in this context that the study entitled “State of knowledge of the invasive species sericostachys scandens by the population living near the Kibira National Park” was carried out in order to contribute to the knowledge of invasive species threatening biodiversity and ecosystems in Burundi. This study aims to assess the state of knowledge of the population living near Kibira National Park about the invasive species Sericostachys scandens and their perception of the level of threat it generates as well as their proposal for its control and eradication.
