2023 Aug 01Geographic distribution of Pterocarpus tinctorius, case of the town Bukemba and Giharo of the Rutana province in Burundi
As part of the final thesis of the Master in Sciences and Integrated Environmental Management, an internship was carried out at the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE) by a student from the University of Burundi. The internship took place in August 2023. The theme addressed at the end of this course is “Geographic distribution of Pterocarpus tinctorius, case of the municipality Bukemba and Giharo of the Rutana province in Burundi” The overall objective of the study was to contribute to the knowledge of the distribution and ecology of Pterocarpus tinctorius in order to sustainably maintain its populations. It is obvious that the distribution of this species is not homogeneous because the physicochemical characteristics of the environment would influence this difference in distribution. In addition, the trees observed were not distributed at the same altitude, which would influence this difference in distribution. Pterocarpus tinctorius is one of the so-called rosewood species that is highly sought after in its range.
