Despite their significant impact on human life in the Afrotropical region, Diptera remain poorly studied. This is largely due to the lack of experts in Diptera taxonomy and curators of collections in the Afrotropical region, the difficulties faced by some developing countries in maintaining their collections, and the low number of digitized specimens. This hampers the use of these Diptera collections for identification services, taxonomic and phylogenetic research, and other areas of biological research. The urgent need for knowledge transfer and training for emerging young entomologists in the Afrotropical region has prompted the Royal Museum for Central Africa and collaborating institutes to organize entomology training courses in the Afrotropical region. The courses take place in Africa, in strategic locations and are free for participants and speakers.
