2024 Oct 03PhD and master scholarship opportunities under DipoDiP2 in Burundi: The diversity of pollinating Diptera in Afrotropical Biodiversity Hotspots
The DipoDiP2 project (from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2029) is the continuation of the DipoDip project (2019—2024) and is the result of a framework agreement in partnership with the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (DGD) in Belgium and the AfricaMuseum (Royal Museum for Central Africa; MRAC) in Tervuren, Belgium. The DipoDiP2 project offers a doctoral scholarship (3 years) and a master's scholarship (2 years) starting in 2025 in Burundi.
The general objective of the DipoDiP2 project is the development of research activities and the promotion of training and education activities, in partnership (among others) with the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE) of Burundi. The DipoDiP2 project will study the biodiversity of beneficial fly families (pollinating Diptera) in biodiversity hotspots in the Afrotropical Region (RA). The project will improve the taxonomy and identification of these families and provide basic data on their distribution and ecology (pollination). This will be accomplished through the training of entomologists, curators, and RA officials, including doctoral students and master students from the project partners, as well as through joint research. Workshops with local partners and stakeholders will translate the results into policy, citizen science and education. This will result in Red List assessments and improved conservation strategies for Diptera biodiversity in the RA, while citizen science and education activities will raise awareness of the importance of Diptera in pollination, food security, and nature conservation. We offer the following scholarships for doctoral and master's degrees
