Dans le cadre de la gestion efficace des aires protégées, le Gouvernement du Burundi a obtenu une assistance technique de l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et Plan d'Aménagement et de Gestion RN Rumonge, Nkayamba et Kigwena Page 8 l'agriculture (FAO), à travers le projet « Renforcement de l’intégrité physique des Aires Protégées et amélioration des conditions de vie des populations riveraines ». Parmi les activités à mener dans le cadre de ce projet, figure l’élaboration des plans d’aménagement et de gestion des aires protégées de Monge, Vyanda, Rumonge, Nkayamba et Kigwena.
