This internship was supervised by Dr. SIBOMANA Claver, professor at the University of Burundi and NZIGIDAHERA Benoît from OBPE. University of Burundi

The internship began with a bibliographical review, preparation of the laboratory equipment required for the internship and recovery of specimens that should be analyzed. The samples identified were collected in various ecological zones in Burundi, by various authors. It is about:

  • Imbo plain (Rusizi National Park, city of Bujumbura, in the Kanyosha, Muha and Ntahangwa and Mutimbuzi rivers);

  • Central Highlands (Ruvubu National Park).

Identification of amphibian samples The taxonomic identification of samples began with the morphological analysis of specimens of the genus Ptychadena jar by jar. These specimens were then determined using the determination keys. Morphological characters show variations that are used in classification. These variations are located in the head, mouth, limbs and skin. Identification of amphibian samples

equipped with a small mesh net to trap Anurans in the water or in the surrounding vegetation. For species found on land, they should be captured by hand. The captured samples were kept alive in order to record the shapes of the iris and to take photos. Arriving at the OBPE laboratory, the intern proceeded with the labeling and put the collected samples into jars containing alcohol (70%). Collection of amphibian samples
