The survey for the identification and distribution of plant genetic resources used in the pharmaceutical industry at the Bujumbura medicinal plant market

Knowledge of medicinal plants from Burundi for therapeutic uses whose chemical and pharmacological properties are well verified is of paramount importance from a health point of view. Medicinal plants, after their treatment by the pharmaceutical industry, give good medicines used by the population. In Burundi and all over the world, medicinal plants are of indispensable interest to humans. The latter uses plants for their food, as remedies and has learned the hard way to identify the most toxic ones. For a long time, the fortuitous observation of the medicinal properties of plants was transmitted first orally to each other, from family to family, from one tribe to another, from generation to generation and then in writings in Europe and other continents.

In order to do The aim of the work is to inventory medicinal plants from Burundi used in pharmaceutical industries whose therapeutic and chemical properties are verified by these industries that an investigation was conducted in the city of Bujumbura by the intern student NDAYININAHAZE Rémy, from the University of Burundi, University of Burundi, Faculty of Agronomy and Bioengineering, Department of Environmental Sciences and Technologies (STE) in the month of March 2017. This survey constitutes a basis for further research on medicinal plants in Burundi. This research will focus on the analysis of the chemical, pharmacological and toxicological properties of these plants. The said investigation took place in Bujumbura City Hall, more particularly in the municipalities of Muha, Ntahangwa and Mukaza.

Field activities concerned prospecting and the choice of plants whose therapeutic properties are chemically verified and used in the pharmaceutical industry. The student then selected therapeutic medicinal species used in Burundi. Afterwards he proceeded to determine these plants. The determination focused on systematics, the description of the species, the habitat, the habitat, the medical use, the chemical properties or molecules contained in the plant, the manufacturing processes, the other uses of the plant concerned as well as their geographical distribution. Identification of plant genetic resources used in pharmacopoeia

This investigation was concluded by the analysis of therapeutic uses, that is to say the diseases that are treated by these plants.
