Activity report on the inventory, mapping & characterization of oxytenanthera abyssinica in Burundi

As part of its “Research Program, Information Exchange, Awareness and Conservation of Biodiversity in Burundi” established in partnership with the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium (IRSNB), the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE), commissioned a study on “The conservation status of Oxythenanthera abyssinica and to establish its indicators”. The study was entrusted to Mr. Jacques NKENGURUTSE and Mr. Lameck NIYOKWIZIGIRA. The work of this study allowed Mr. Lameck NIYOKWIZIGIRA to collect data from the final thesis of the Master in Environmental Sciences and Management of the Department of Biology, of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Burundi. To be consistent with its content, the study report was entitled “Distribution, stock assessment and establishment of the conservation status of Oxytenanthera abyssinica in Cankuzo and Ruyigi provinces”. Subsequently and to complete the results of the above-mentioned report, a study entitled “Inventory, Mapping & Characterization of Oxytenanthera abyssinica in Burundi” was entrusted to us by the OBPE in an attempt to cover the national territory. Given the importance of the distribution of this species in addition to the Cankuzo and Ruyigi provinces already explored, the complete mapping of O. abyssinica in Burundi has already mobilized important contributions from the University of Burundi. This report presents the progress of the activities covered by the financing of the OBPE.
