2000 Dec 01Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation in Lake Tanganyika: BIOSS Final Technical Report
This technical report provides the results of the research activities that have been conducted to achieve these objectives. We review the concepts and processes that led to the choice of methodology, and validate this methodology (Chapter 2). We present a summary analysis of the current biodiversity knowledge required for conservation based on an analysis of available secondary information (Chapter 3), and the results of explorations conducted by the ESBIO team in 1997-1999 (Chapter 4). This data is used to provide a better basis for conservation decision making (Chapter 5). We conclude with a summary of recommendations for conservation approaches, management actions, monitoring, and research priorities (Chapter 6). This report also provides detailed bibliography (Chapter 7) and an important data archive (Chapter 8).
