The Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE) was created in 2014 by decree No. 100/240 which specifies its missions, organization and operation. It is the result of the merger of two Directorates-General, namely the National Institute for Environment and Nature Conservation (INECN) and the General Directorate for Environment and Forests. The OBPE has three departments including the one in charge of forests, the one in charge of the environment and climate change and the one relating to administration and finances.
