Diversity and ecology of Syrphidae (Diptera: Syrphoidea) pollinators of natural and agricultural ecosystems in Burundi

The present study was carried out in protected areas of Burundi and their coastal agricultural environments as well as the biotope of the city of Bujumbura and the agroecosystems of the central plateaus and Mutimbuzi. During this study, Syrphidae species were collected from 2009 to 2014. The analysis of their distribution, their relative abundance and their frequency of occurrence was carried out. The most visited plants as well as the frequency of visits of Syrphidae species were analyzed. The Sorensen similarity index and the ascending hierarchical classification of sites made it possible to compare the different ecosystems. In total, 101 taxonomic groups of Syrphidae divided into 16 genera were collected. Of these groups, 26 have been identified up to the species, 11 up to the genus. The rest (64 groups) are identified up to the family
