This report is an integral part of the National Strategy and Action Plan on Biological Diversity and includes the strategic axes such as the global and specific objectives or guidelines that form the framework of the National Strategy.

This report is the first country report that BURUNDI sent to the Conference of the Parties in accordance with article 26 of the Convention, which provides that each Contracting Party shall report to the Conference of the Parties on the provisions it has adopted to implement the Convention and the extent to which they have contributed to the achievement of the objectives set out in the Convention.

The present report responds to decision II/17 of the Conference of the Parties, which requires the first country report, after describing natural biological diversity, to establish the causes of the degradation of such biodiversity and to report on the measures taken in the context of the implementation of article 6 of the CBD.
