This paper attempts to identify the root causes of the degradation of natural resources and to identify and describe the best practices to be used in dealing with this degradation. However, the practices in this document do not purport to be comprehensive in terms of data and information collections, or to cover all aspects of sustainable land management. They serve as a prototype for compendia of national and international practices.
