Identifying taxonomy capacity building needs

The present study on “identifying taxonomy capacity building needs” is part of the implementation of the Capacity Building Project for the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SNPA-DB) and the Strengthening of the Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) funded by the GEF/UNDP.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the implementation of the SNPA-DB by assessing capacity building needs through defined national priorities, and in particular “identifying taxonomy capacity building needs”.

In this context, three national consultants were asked to produce this report, the terms of reference of which are as follows:

  • Assessment of the capacities of institutions on methods of faunistic and floral inventories, conservation, biodiversity monitoring and continuous evaluation of conservation activities
  • Identification of needs and resource persons for training in taxonomic inventory methods
  • Identification of the needs for the establishment of a national data collection network based on the ecosystem approach through multidisciplinary groups, as well as for biodiversity data processing systems in databases.

This report was discussed and validated in the framework of a national workshop in which the partners concerned by the issue participated. Based on the suggestions and recommendations of this workshop, this report was produced.
