To properly measure and report on the status of implementation of national objectives, Burundi needs indicators that should show how ecosystems and species are evolving. It is on the basis of evaluations based on these indicators that solutions should be identified to counter biodiversity threats.

This booklet of indicators therefore provides reference information that will help assess:
- Trends in the extent of ecosystems and natural habitats;
- Trends in species and populations linked to natural habitats;
- Trends in the risk of extinction of species that provide ecosystem services.
