2021 Jun 01Practical guide to tree plantations in dense humid forests in Africa
This guide aims to provide recommendations to foresters interested in plantations of indigenous species in humid tropical environments. It synthesizes the knowledge acquired for a series of woody species in dense humid forests in sub-Saharan Africa. The guide is based on published or unpublished data, accumulated by international partners or from countries in Central and West Africa. Although not intended to be based on exhaustive documentary research, the guide provides a maximum of practical information and illustrations for some fifty species whose silvicultural itinerary is relatively well controlled. For environmental reasons, the guide also chooses silviculture that limits the use of chemical products. It proposes techniques offering the best compromise between investments and results.
This guide will be particularly useful for African timber companies that want to conduct long-term forestry programs. It should be of interest, in particular, to companies certified by a legality or sustainable management label. But they are not the only target audience: the book is also intended for forest technicians, students and teachers of forest disciplines.
