This publication is part of the working documents developed by Nathan Associates on behalf of the Regional Development Services Office for Southern and Eastern Africa (USAID/REDSO) under contract no. GEG-I-00-04-00002-00, section 2, Section 2, Program for Monitoring Economic Reform and Financial Transparency in Burundi 2005—2006.
The objective of the program is to help USAID/REDSO establish an agenda for the promotion of economic reform and growth along with transparency in the finances of the Government of Burundi. The Nathan team has conducted investigations and developed recommendations related to economic issues in Burundi and the opportunities this country has, especially when it comes to the government's role in the national economy, the fight against corruption and transparency in management. The results of the evaluation and the recommendations will be presented to the government, civil society, economic actors in Burundi, as well as representatives of donors at a conference to be held in Bujumbura in May 2006 and through other related information forums.
