To operationalize the national vision of our Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SNPAB), which states that: “By 2020, access to genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge is granted through a fair and equitable sharing of the resulting benefits in favor of beneficiaries, mainly local and indigenous communities, and by ensuring essential
benefits for current and future generations. ”., Burundi has made a commitment to promote and support research on genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge.

The aim of the Strategic Research Plan is therefore to promote this research in strict compliance with the terms and conditions of access to the country's medicinal genetic resources while ensuring a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from it.
It is a reference tool for several actors, including decision-makers at all levels, committed to the promotion of research on medicinal genetic resources for their valorization in favor of communities and the national economy.
