2011 Aug 01Study on the costs of inaction against land degradation in Burundi
It appears that a major investment effect in the fight against land degradation should therefore be a concern and a priority for the country's political authorities, the private sector and grassroots communities. Indeed, if substantial commitments are not made, Burundi will remain in the vicious circle of poverty, which is materialized by the following phenomena: impoverishment of the land, insufficient agricultural production, economic poverty, economic poverty, social tensions and migrations. On the other hand, if significant investments are made in the fight against land degradation, Burundi will be able to ensure food security for its entire population, consolidate social peace and embark on the path of sustainable human development.
