The Natural Monuments of the East (MNE) are an example of these sites of natural beauty that should not be missed when visiting Burundi. They are located on the sacred Nkoma massif, located in the south-east of the country in the province of Rutana. Because of their biological wealth and the socio-cultural events of monarchical Burundi, they occupy a capital place in the history of the country as well as in the legendary environmental and geocultural realities of the region.
They extend over the municipalities of Mpinga-Kayove, Giharo and Musongati. They present a very elegant and pleasant panorama over a very vast area. On the Nkoma Massif, a protected area has been created in MNE consisting of the Nyakazu Faults and the Karera Falls.
They can, par excellence, offer an opportunity to promote sustainable socio-economic and cultural development, but also environmental, if all stakeholders invest more in them. For their beauty, these sites are the most visited by tourists after the beautiful beaches of Lake Tanganyika
