Editorial Procedures The Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editors are responsible for deciding whether the submitted manuscript can be published in the newsletter. The Editor-in-Chief or the Deputy Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editor concerned with the topic of the submitted article, therefore submit to the readers a manuscript that is already considered important for publication. A manuscript must be analyzed by at least two readers from the Scientific Committee. The choice of readers is decided by the Editor-in-Chief, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the article. If required, a manuscript may be submitted to external readers identified by the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editors with the possibility of proposals from members of the Scientific Committee. The decision to accept or reject a manuscript based on readers' opinions is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editors.

No article can be accepted without having undergone the analysis process provided for this newsletter. In the event of a negative position by the readers, the author is called upon to be questioned by the Editor-in-Chief or Deputy Editor-in-Chief in order to take the final decision. The author may be called upon to thoroughly review his text or to carry out additional research activities. Before the publication of the newsletter, it is submitted to the entire Scientific Committee to elicit comments on the content and format.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

General framework

The Scientific Bulletin on Environment and Biodiversity is annual. It covers ecology, resource development, systematics, conservation, conservation, pollution, risks and natural disasters, etc. The newsletter will receive articles written in both English and French at the level of the African continent. It is understood that all manuscripts submitted to the Scientific Bulletin on Environment and Biodiversity have not been published or will no longer be published in any other journal. A manuscript cannot exceed 20 pages. Exceptions are made in advance with the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief who will inform the Associate Editors.

The manuscript may also be for a short text on one page or more that provides relevant scientific information. This information may in particular concern a supplement or a correction to a publication already made in this same bulletin.

In addition to scientific articles based on scientific research, the newsletter will also contain a section called “Forum”. The section is intended to contain discussion articles, comments, or (technical) notes that discuss concepts, methods, visions related to the sciences covered by the newsletter.

The Bulletin must therefore be published annually during the month of November and will contain all the articles submitted during the Bulletin year, which begins in November last year. Before the Newsletter is produced in November, accepted articles will each time be published online. In parallel with the regular issue of the bulletin, it is also planned, according to needs and requests, to issue a special issue annually including articles on specific themes, conference proceedings, etc. The articles in the Special Bulletin are treated in the same way as those in the regular bulletin.

Preparation of the manuscript The manuscript, which is a scientific research or forum article, must have:

Format - font: Times New Roman - font size for the newsletter title: 14 - content size: 10 - Line spacing: simple, with 2 cm margin on both sides - Format in 2 columns

Title The title of the manuscript should provide concise information. If the title contains a species name, it should be italicized and followed by the name of the author and the year of publication. The last name and order should also follow and put in brackets (Ex: Analysis of the behavior of Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel (Tephritidae: Diptera) in a mango orchard).

The name (s) of the author (s) is followed by a postal address and an e-mail address if they exist. Keywords cannot be longer than 10 words. Words that are in the title of the manuscript cannot be returned to the keywords. The summary is produced in French and English and cannot exceed 15 lines.

Contents

Content for scientific research articles

The important sections of the manuscript content are: Introduction, Methodology, Methodology, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion (These two sections can be combined), Acknowledgement (optional), Bibliography. The discussion should include enough material. Figures and tables accompany the texts. Any scientific name of the species must be followed, at least once, by the name of its author (s) and the year of its publication, preferably as soon as it is first cited in the text. This newsletter never receives taxonomic articles, therefore publishing new taxa. However, sometimes the manuscript concerns biological inventories and is present on collected material. In such circumstances, it becomes necessary to note carefully the elements characterizing the available equipment. Internationally recognized symbols can be used including ♂ for male and ♀ for female. Ex: Mabuya maculilabris (Gray, 1845) Syn:

BURUNDI: Bujumbura, Ndikumana F., manual capture, Musaga, green space, S 03.341072°, E 029.87270°, 961 m, ♂: 25.VII.2009 (INECN); crop fields, S 03.41238°, S 03.41238°, E 029.37828°, E 029.37828°, 928 m,: 25.VII.2009 (INECN 24); fields of cultivation, S 03.41238°, E 029.37828°, E 029.37828°, 961 m,: 25.VII.2009 (INECN 24); fields of cultivation, S 03.41238°, E 029.37828°, E 029.87270°, 961 m, ♀

Content for the Forum's scientific articles

Contributions in this section will be shorter (maximum 35,000 words) and should not respect the traditional structure of research articles (Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion). Each contribution must be accompanied by an abstract in French and English as for scientific research articles. The requirements on tables, figures, and writings for scientific names remain the same as for scientific research articles.

Bibliography The bibliography is noted in two ways in the text:

- Bibliography in the text: References in the text are mentioned by the name of the author (s) and the year of publication of the work in question. Ex: (Jocqué 1991, 2009; Nzigidahera 2000); Habiyaremye (1995); Nzigidahera and Jocqué (2009); (Nzigidahera and Jocqué 2010a, b); Habonimana et al. (2010).

- List of bibliographical references cited at the end of the article: the references are listed in alphabetical order. Of course, you must cite all the authors and the title of the document.

The names of periodicals (journals, journals, newsletters, etc.) must be written in full and not in abbreviated form. Periodical names and book titles should be italicized. E.g.:

Jocqué, R. (1991) A generic revision of the spider family Zodariidae (Araneae). Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History, 201, 1—160. Dankittipakul, P. & Jocqué, R. (2006) Two new species of Cydrela Thorell (Araneae: Zodariidae) from Thailand. Raffles Bulletin of Zoology, 54, 93—101.

Dippenaar-Schoeman, A.S. & Jocqué, R. (1997) African Spiders: An Identification Manual. Plant Protection Res. Inst. Handbook, no. 9, Pretoria, 392 pp.

Figures and tables

This newsletter accepts color illustrations; but the wish is to have illustrations not in color. Thus, for reasons of economy, the author is therefore required to reduce the coloring of the article as soon as possible, in particular the background color in terms of the columns and rows of the tables. Illustrations are maps, drawings, charts, graphs, photos, etc. all considered to be figures. Multiple illustrations can be grouped and labeled as A, B, C, etc. under the same figure title as Fig. 1 ABC. In this case, it is desirable for these figures to be processed in Photoshop or under other appropriate software to really form only one figure.

As it is possible to send the manuscript by e-mail, the illustrations inserted in a text in Word or RTF make the document very heavy. The author must therefore send them as attachments in the form of images in JPG with a specification of the insertion area in the text in Word or RTF. The title of the table is placed above it and in bold and that of figure is placed below and in bold in the following form: Fig. 1; Fig. 1- 5; Table 1:

Tables and figures should be cited in the text, e.g.: Table 1 shows information related to the economy of Burundi. Data related to the geographical location have been developed (table 1). Figure 5 is a leaf of Eucalyptus saligna. An Eucalyptus saligna leaf has been illustrated (fig. 5).

Submissions

Initial Submission The manuscript is submitted in electronic format with a file in Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.RTF) and the illustrations in JPEG (.JPG) or TIFF (.TIF). Manuscripts submitted in inappropriate formats will not be processed. The author submits the manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief or to the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Scientific Bulletin on Environment and Biodiversity, respectively: b angifre2003@yahoo.fr and h abonimana2@yahoo.fr.

Treatment by the Scientific Committee

After acknowledging receipt of the manuscript, the Editor-in-Chief and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief, after consulting the Associate Editors, submit it to readers identified among the Scientific Committee of the Bulletin and/or to external readers. Normally, any corrections, remarks and comments are made in “Change tracking” mode. A manuscript evaluation text and additional comments are produced separately by the reader. The reader then completes a form to give feedback on the manuscript. The evaluation concerns only the scientific aspect of the content and not the format of the manuscript.

Manuscript evaluation form Manuscript title Scientific value of the manuscript High Medium low Need for its revision Deep revision Simple corrections Without corrections Need for its publication Important Low To not publish Need for proofreading High Medium Not necessary Proofreading Need High Medium Not necessary Name of the reader and his E-mail Final submission

The manuscript evaluation report is sent to the main author within one month. The corrected manuscript must be sent to the Editor-in-Chief within one month as well. The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and in agreement with the Associate Editors, announces within one month the acceptance of the article to the author of the manuscript or to the correspondent (in case of several authors). This whole process should be completed in a period not exceeding three months. This announcement date is therefore retained as the date of acceptance of the manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief will thus process the text, in particular by inserting figures, formatting and producing the PDF file. The Editor-in-Chief can then send the resulting product to the author or correspondent for final editing. The latter can send any corrections by e-mail and it is the Editor-in-Chief or the Deputy Editor-in-Chief who will be in charge of finalizing the document. If the author's corrections tend to change the text profoundly, the manuscript is in this case refused and cannot be resubmitted.

Publication of the article

Once accepted for publication, a manuscript will be directly published in PDF on the CHM website (on a web page entitled: Accepted articles for the Scientific Bulletin on Environment and Biodiversity). This means that the article is officially accepted and should include the dates of submission and acceptance. All authors whose email addresses have been provided thus receive an e-mail indicating the web page of the publication website, which is normally: http://bi.chmcbd.net.

The article is therefore open to the general public. After the preparation of the Scientific Bulletin on Environment and Biodiversity in November, the articles that have been published online will be archived, but while remaining accessible to the public. The Bulletin is therefore produced in print and authors can obtain it at the OBPE office in Bujumbura. It should be noted that the CHM- Burundais will be able to cover the sending of printed matter outside Burundi by post only.

OTHER INFORMATION Audience: Biologists, Botanists, Foresters, Foresters, Zoologists, Entomologists, Entomologists, Agronomists, Conservation Specialists, Geographers, Socioeconomists, Economists, Chemists, Environmentalists, etc.
