Gitega: ISABU launches the campaign to distribute avocado plants

The assistant minister in charge of agriculture and livestock, Emmanuel Ndorimana, invites the Burundian population to plant avocado trees on a large scale. He recommends that each household plant at least five avocado trees so that Burundi can become an exporter of this fruit that is increasingly coveted in the world and thus earn foreign currency.

This invitation was sent to the population on January 11, 2024 on Rukoba Hill in Gitega commune during the distribution of avocado plants by ISABU to farmers as part of Environmental Thursday.

The beneficiaries were farmers from the Butamuheba and Ntobwe hills in Gitega commune and Mutoyi in Bugendana commune. Each hill received 5,000 avocado plants, varieties Choquette and Fuerte.

During this campaign to distribute avocado plants, Emmanuel Ndorimana called on the Burundian population to plant avocado trees on a large scale. He explained that this fruit can be exported abroad and can also bring in foreign currency in the same way as tea and coffee.

The assistant minister of the environment, agriculture and livestock also asked agricultural technicians across the country to increase avocado nurseries so that each household could have at least 5 avocado plants to plant.

On this environmental Thursday, this official from the ministry in charge of agriculture participated in an environmental protection activity at Mashitsi hill in the town of Giheta, where 4348 grevellia plants were transplanted.
