On Thursday, March 21, 2020, the Gitega municipality administration launched the “Gitega, clean city” campaign.
Sanitation and hygiene rehabilitation activities took place at the central market square in the city of Gitega.

All sides of the market have been affected, the center and the areas where the restaurants and bars are located. In these places, people were busy cleaning gutters blocked by pesticide organic matter as well as removing objects covering the roads that border the market.

The Administrator of the Gitega municipality, the doctor Jacques Nduwimana, took this opportunity to launch an appeal to the townspeople of Gitega to make hygiene their daily priority. He invited everyone to clean up their land on a daily basis without waiting for the mobilization of the mass by the administration.

This “Gitega clean city” campaign also involved civil society organizations whose terms of reference include hygiene and sanitation components.
