The Minister in charge of the environment receives a delegation from the World Bank in audience

The Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Déo Guide Rurema received in audience in Bujumbura on Thursday, May 12, 2022, a World Bank delegation led by the main specialist in adaptation and resilience to climate change at the World Bank Ms. ARAME Tall. The two personalities discussed the establishment of a national program that will transform climate change challenges into opportunities.

According to Minister Déo Guide Rurema, discussions with the team of environmental experts led by ARAME Tall focused on issues related to climate change. He said that climate change does not only concern Burundi but the whole world.

The minister in charge of the environment said that Burundi has already made a diagnosis and discussions have continued through this section of the World Bank on how to set up a national program that will really transform these challenges related to climate change into opportunities for the country's development.

For Minister Déo Guide Rurema, Burundi is already ahead of the curve; a harmonized watershed management strategy has already been developed as well as the establishment of level curves.

Through the Ministry in charge of the environment, Burundi has also proposed a program concerning the development of land capital with regard to radical terraces and progressive terraces.

Based on all these documents, in collaboration with the World Bank and other partners, Minister Déo Guide Rurema believes that a national program will be put in place so that we no longer talk about the challenges related to climate change but that from these challenges, we draw opportunities for the well-being of the population, concluded the Minister Déo Guide Rurema in charge of the environment.
