National Tree Day or Arbor Day

On the occasion of National Tree Day, launched on December 19, the Head of State invited the Burundian population to plant and maintain trees. The ceremonies took place on the banks of the Ndurumu River in Karusi where the President of the Republic planted a variety of giant bamboos.

Under the theme: “Forest and innovation: new solutions for a better world”, this celebration was an opportunity for public authorities to raise awareness among populations by inviting them to plant trees in order to limit the effects of desertification and the effects of climate change.

In Karusi, the National Tree Day edition 2024 has rhymed with reforestation, it slows desertification because this act calls on the government to encourage the population to plant trees on bare soils and trees in association with food crops on arable land.

The day also served as a reminder of the indispensable role that forests play in maintaining life on Earth, while stressing the urgent need to adopt innovative approaches to address challenges such as deforestation.
